Directors of Chinese state-owned companies in the gas sector have revealed that Beijing is exerting influence over Iranian officials to prevent actions that could affect gas exports from Qatar or other energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. China, the main buyer of oil from Iran, plays a crucial role in the Iranian economy, but it also depends on the stability of the Persian Gulf region for energy supply. Recently, Qatar halted production at the world's largest liquefied natural gas export facility, which alarmed Beijing.

Chinese officials have urged Iran to avoid attacks on ships transporting gas and to allow the continuation of supplies, considering that Qatar provides a significant proportion of the gas consumed by China. Although Beijing has maintained a publicly reserved position, analysts estimate that the impact of the conflict in Iran on the Chinese economy is manageable, with a possible increase in inflation due to oil prices.
