Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III, known as the pilot of the "Miracle on the Hudson," revealed on his personal website that he is facing a neurodegenerative condition, having recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
At the age of 75, Sullenberger mentioned that the disease is in an early stage, affecting his memory and sleep. In January 2009, he made an emergency landing on the Hudson River, saving all 155 people on board after the plane was damaged by a flock of geese. His quick and calm reaction was essential in avoiding a tragedy.
A former fighter pilot and aviation safety advocate, Sullenberger retired in 2010, and his story was adapted into the 2016 film "Sully," directed by Clint Eastwood, with Tom Hanks in the lead role.
