Amy Acton, a candidate for governor of the state of Ohio, was attacked while visiting a fair

Democratic candidate for governor of Ohio, Amy Acton, was attacked Sunday by an armed man at the Canfield Fair, near Youngstown. Acton was not injured, and the suspect was detained by authorities.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the candidate’s campaign team, 38-year-old Patrick Havas pushed several people to the ground while trying to reach Acton. A taser and two handguns were found on him.

Havas was taken to the Mahoning County Jail. He is charged with disorderly conduct and two counts of assault. The State Highway Patrol and the sheriff’s office are investigating the circumstances of the incident, but have not yet provided further details about the motive for the attack.

Amy Acton’s campaign condemned the violence, while representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties in Mahoning County called the incident unacceptable. Republican Governor Mike DeWine also condemned the attack. Evidence and witness statements are expected to clarify how the incident unfolded.
