Canada will implement a system of tariff quotas for countries with which it has free trade agreements, with the exception of the US, and will apply additional tariffs of 25% on steel from non-US countries if it has been melted and cast in China. The measures are in response to complaints from the local industry, which is facing the redirection of steel exports because of US tariffs. Mark Carney emphasized that Canadian firms will be given priority in public procurement and announced a C$1 billion fund to support strategic projects.
