Bulgaria, a preferred vacation destination for Romanians, is starting to lose popularity due to the significant increase in prices following the adoption of the euro. Tourists who have recently visited resorts like Balchik have noticed that a simple salad can cost up to 20 euros, and beer at a terrace reaches 5-6 euros. The prices of restaurants on the coast are now comparable to those in Italy or Greece, and tourist attractions, such as the botanical garden and the castle in Balchik, cost about 20 euros per person. Locals confirm that prices have risen in all areas, while salaries are not at the same level as those in Western European countries. This trend could lead Romanian tourists to reorient their choices, and hoteliers in Romania hope to attract more visitors to the domestic coast, considering that the price differences are narrowing.
