Bulgaria has started to pay pensions in euros, affecting over 2 million retirees, which has led to the formation of huge queues at post offices. Over 60% of retirees opt for bank transfers, while the rest depend on payments through the post. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has tightened security measures, with an increased police presence around post offices and banks. Although some retirees have expressed their satisfaction with the adoption of the euro, others have voiced their dissatisfaction with the small amounts of pensions. Queues have formed in several cities, and retirees have reported a slow adaptation to the new currency. Additionally, merchants were not prepared for the change, and fears related to rising prices have led to protests against the introduction of the euro.
