The European Commission confirmed on Wednesday that Brazil has been excluded from the list of countries that can export meat and animal products to the European Union, due to concerns related to the use of antibiotics in animals. The decision was adopted by the vote of the member states within the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Animal Feed, and the measure will come into effect on September 3.

This will prevent Brazil from exporting chicken meat, eggs, and other products, affecting an annual trade of approximately 1.8 billion dollars. The EU spokesperson, Eva Hrncirova, emphasized that food safety is a priority, and the use of antibiotics for animal growth is prohibited. Brazil must demonstrate compliance with European regulations to regain access to the EU market. The Brazilian government reacted with surprise to the decision and is working to avoid the ban.
