The Republic of Botswana is proposing to open an embassy in Moscow, according to statements by Foreign Minister Phenyo Butale. This initiative comes in the context of Russia's efforts to strengthen its influence in Africa, especially in light of geopolitical challenges with the West. Butale emphasized Botswana's political and economic stability, encouraging Russian investors to invest in the country.

Diamonds, an essential sector for Botswana's economy, significantly contributing to budget revenues, will benefit from this opening towards Russian investments. Additionally, Botswana aims to diversify its external partnerships, especially in the exploitation of rare earths. Russia already has economic relations with Botswana, and the opening of the embassy represents an important step in expanding bilateral cooperation in a competitive global context for strategic resources.
