A federal jury in Chicago has ruled that Boeing must pay 28 million dollars to the family of a deceased UN employee in the crash of a 737 MAX plane in Ethiopia in 2019. As part of a settlement, the family will receive 35.85 million dollars, including an interest of 26%, and Boeing will not appeal. This is the first verdict in a series of lawsuits related to the accidents in Ethiopia and Indonesia, in which 346 people died. Boeing expressed regret to the victims' families and mentioned that most claims have been settled amicably. The family's lawyers stated that the verdict provides public accountability for the company's actions, which has been accused of faulty aircraft design and lack of warnings about risks. Boeing has settled over 90% of civil lawsuits related to these accidents, paying billions in compensation.
