Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, stated in Davos that the sale of U.S. government bonds by Denmark, including by the pension fund AkademikerPension, is irrelevant and does not concern him. This was a reaction to speculation that European capitals might try to pressure the U.S. government by selling bonds, which could increase borrowing costs for the U.S.

Bessent also criticized the statements of European leaders, including Emmanuel Macron, regarding the dispute over Greenland, suggesting that Macron should focus on domestic issues, considering the state of the French budget. Bessent's statements were made before a speech by President Trump, highlighting tensions between the U.S. and Europe.
