UNESCO has designated Beijing as the World Capital of Architecture 2029, recognizing its architectural heritage and commitment to sustainable urban development.

UNESCO has officially announced that Beijing will be the World Capital of Architecture in 2029, as part of a program developed together with the International Union of Architects (UIA).

The decision was made by the Director-General of UNESCO, Khaled El-Enany, at the recommendation of the Joint Committee for the World Capital of Architecture, led by architect Dominique Perrault. Beijing was chosen due to its rich architectural heritage and its vision for sustainable urban development.

In 2029, the city will host an extensive program of events under the theme "Back to Balance," including exhibitions and conferences, to promote architecture as a meeting point between culture, nature, and communities.

The title of World Capital of Architecture is awarded once every three years, and Beijing will follow the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, and Barcelona.
