BBC has announced the elimination of 550 jobs as part of a plan to reduce expenses by 500 million pounds over the next two years. The interim director of BBC News, Jonathan Munro, detailed the proposals, which include the cessation of the 'The World Tonight' broadcast on Radio 4 and reducing the number of permanent presenters of the 'Today' program from five to four. Additionally, the 'Breakfast' program will no longer be broadcast on Sunday mornings, and the production teams of 'Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg' and 'Newsnight' will merge. There will also be layoffs in the news division, with estimated savings of 25 million pounds. In the context of the audience migrating to online media, BBC will review its channel portfolio and reduce its own programming by 100-150 hours. On a positive note, BBC World Service will launch news platforms in Romanian and Hungarian, with dedicated websites and social media pages, starting in June.
