Băneasa Airport, known as the first airport in Romania, could be transformed into a city airport, operating only daytime flights. This decision comes as a result of numerous complaints from nearby residents, who have complained about the noise generated by airplanes. The spokesperson for the National Company Bucharest Airports, Theodor Postelnicu, emphasized that the airport's strategy aims to respect the local community.
Additionally, Postelnicu mentioned that, according to the will of Prince George Valentin Bibescu, the founder of the airport, if no aviation operations are conducted anymore, it will be returned to his heirs. This transformation could have a significant impact on airport operations and the local community in the area.
