In a harsh critique of Western policies, the Romanian MEP calls for a complete review of how the EU defines terrorism, funds NGOs, and integrates migrants, warning that "parallel societies" threaten the European way of life.

Jerusalem, January 26, 2026 – Speaking from the Knesset podium during a plenary session that kicked off the International Conference on Combating Antisemitism, AUR-ECR MEP Georgiana Teodorescu issued a stern warning to Israeli and European lawmakers. In her second official speech before the Israeli Parliament – after being the only Romanian official invited last year – Teodorescu outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat radical Islamism, proposing a "legal Iron Dome" to complement Israel's military defense.

In short

Teodorescu argued that the EU's integration model has collapsed, allowing antisemitism and radical Islamism to create dangerous "parallel societies" within Europe.

The MEP criticized the international community for failing to universally designate Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations, noting that only nine countries have fully done so in the case of Hamas.

Citing the politicization of the UN, she proposed a new "Alliance of States Against Terrorism," with binding rules for member nations regarding the inclusion of terrorist groups on the blacklist.

The speech highlighted the dangers of EU and USAID funds reaching radical groups like UNRWA and called for an aggressive media strategy to counter "fake news."

Teodorescu began her speech by diagnosing the state of the European Union, which she described as going through a "multiple crisis." Beyond geopolitical isolation and economic challenges, she identified a more insidious threat: a "silent dynamic" represented by the rising antisemitism that has exploited the continent's internal weaknesses.

"For decades, the European Union has relied on an integration model: newcomers would naturally adopt European democratic values. Wrong," Teodorescu stated. She argued that this naivety has allowed radical Islamist ideologies to fill the void left by the failure of social integration, resulting in "parallel societies" where violence and vandalism threaten "not only Jewish values but also the European way of life."

Making a parallel with Israel's missile defense system, the Romanian MEP called for an "Iron Dome" built from "laws, education, and unwavering moral clarity." She expressed shock that only nine nations – including the USA, the UK, and Japan – have legally designated Hamas as a terrorist organization. She was particularly critical of the EU's current position on Hezbollah, which distinguishes between the group's "military" and "political" wings, a separation she deemed artificial and dangerous. Furthermore, she called for the Muslim Brotherhood to be added to global terrorist lists, warning that their influence extends deep into European territory.

Teodorescu did not shy away from criticizing the United Nations, stating that the body "has strayed from its original purpose" and has become excessively politicized against Israel. Echoing sentiments similar to those of President Trump regarding alternative international frameworks, she proposed the creation of a rigid "Alliance of States Against Terrorism." According to her proposal, this alliance would have a binding status: if a group is designated as a terrorist organization by at least three member states, all other members would be obliged to follow suit, eliminating diplomatic ambiguity.

The speech also touched on the "roots" of radicalization: funding and education. Teodorescu recounted a visit to the Shomron region, where she saw a school calendar from Gaza featuring terrorists with weapons, arguing that children raised with such imagery have no chance for peace. She harshly criticized the flow of EU and USAID funds to organizations like UNRWA, equating it to "funding tomorrow's terrorists."

Finally, she addressed the information war, urging Israel to drastically improve its communication strategy in Europe. "Fake news can only be countered with real news," she stated, calling on the Israeli national press to produce accessible content in English to counter prevailing narratives in the West. "The world will only be safe when radical Islamism is eliminated," she concluded.
