A Russian cargo ship, MIDVOLGA-2, was attacked in the Black Sea, 80 miles off the Turkish coast, while sailing from Russia to Georgia with a cargo of sunflower oil. The Turkish naval authority confirmed that the ship, which is 140 meters long and sails under the Russian flag, did not request assistance and is heading to the port of Sinop under its own power. According to some sources, the attack was carried out with a kamikaze drone.
The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressed concerns about the escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing that drone attacks threaten navigation security in the Black Sea. Additionally, two oil tankers, Kairos and Virat, were recently attacked by Ukrainian drones in the same area, and Ukraine claimed responsibility for the attacks on these vessels from the fleet that helps Russia evade international sanctions. Another tanker, Mersin, was damaged in the Atlantic, but the circumstances of the attack remain unclear.
