An armed man opened fire in Bekkersdal, a locality located 40 km southwest of Johannesburg, causing the death of at least 10 people and injuring another 10. The local police stated that the attack occurred near a bar, and the victims were shot randomly on the street by unknown individuals. Brig Brenda Muridili, the spokesperson for the police in the Gauteng province, confirmed the number of deaths but did not provide details about the identity of the victims. The injured were transported to the hospital for medical care. This incident follows another shooting on December 6, when 12 people were killed in a guesthouse near Pretoria. South Africa is facing a high crime rate, including one of the highest murder rates in the world.
