Apple has begun preliminary discussions with Indian chip manufacturers to assemble and package components for iPhones in India, a first for the company. Negotiations are taking place with CG Semi, which is developing an assembly and testing facility for semiconductors in Sanand, Gujarat. Apple's goal is to produce the majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. in India by the end of 2026, in order to avoid high tariffs from China. The share of iPhone production in India has increased to 18% in 2024 and is estimated to reach 32% in 2025. In the financial year ending March 31, 2025, Apple assembled iPhones worth $22 billion in India, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year.
