The British police conducted searches on Friday at Royal Lodge, the residence of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, in the context of an investigation in which he was arrested on Thursday and released after 10 hours. Andrew is accused of misconduct in public office for sending confidential government documents to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Although Mountbatten-Windsor has denied any illegal act and expressed regret for his friendship with Epstein, recent documents published by the U.S. government suggest that he continued to collaborate with Epstein after his conviction.
King Charles stated that he learned about the arrest with "the deepest concern" and emphasized that the law must take its course. Andrew's arrest is unprecedented in modern times, the last royal family member to be arrested being Charles I, in 1649. Additionally, Andrew is no longer considered a member of the royal family, after the king stripped him of his titles due to his association with Epstein. Buckingham Palace stated that it will support the police in the investigation but was not informed in advance about the arrest.
