The USA is preparing a "time capsule" to mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which will be buried on July 4.

America250, the national organization responsible for celebrating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, has announced the creation of a time capsule, which will be buried on July 4, 2026, in the Independence National Historical Park. This will remain sealed for 250 years, to be opened in 2276, when America will celebrate 500 years of independence.

The capsule, developed in collaboration with experts from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will include representative items for American society from 2026, such as sports souvenirs, letters, and artifacts from various institutions. The design of the capsule, a cylinder made of stainless steel, was chosen to withstand extreme conditions, ensuring that the contents will remain intact.

The capsule will be publicly displayed before it is buried, and the installation process will be coordinated by the National Park Service.
