Sabrina, a 44-year-old paraglider from Austria, celebrated her birthday with a flight over the Schmittenhöhe mountain, near Zell am See. During the flight, recorded with a dashboard camera, a Cessna F182Q Skylane suddenly appeared behind her, causing a violent collision that severed the suspension cables and the paraglider's canopy.
With remarkable calm, Sabrina managed to open the reserve parachute, which allowed her to land safely, suffering only a few bruises and minor contusions. The pilot of the plane, a 28-year-old man, stated that he could not avoid the impact in time but successfully landed at Zell am See airport.
An investigation is underway to determine responsibility and regulations related to the use of airspace in the area.
