Aaron Spencer, a man from Arkansas accused of murdering his daughter's alleged abuser, recently won the Republican nomination for the position of sheriff of Lonoke County, while awaiting trial for murder. Spencer received over 53% of the votes, defeating the current sheriff John Staley. Although his lawyers acknowledge that he shot Michael Fosler, 67 years old, they argue that Spencer acted legally to protect his daughter from a predator.

Spencer stated that his message of accountability resonated with voters and promised to combat sexual crimes against children if elected. His trial has been postponed, and a new date has not been set. Prosecutors claim that Spencer intended to kill Fosler before the incident. His attorney stated that Spencer acted according to the law to protect his family.
