The quake struck at 19:53 local time at a depth of 11 kilometers and was felt in western Turkey, including the major cities of Istanbul and Izmir. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that AFAD emergency teams have begun checks in the affected areas, but so far no casualties or material damage have been reported. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded by the German Geoscientific Research Center (GFZ) at 6.19.
