The earthquake occurred just before 5:30 AM, at a depth of approximately 80 kilometers, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Although the intensity of the earthquake was significant, no tsunami warning was issued. This seismic event comes less than a week after the JMA warned of an increased risk of high-intensity earthquakes, following a previous earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 that occurred off the coast of Iwate Prefecture.
