An impressive 11,000-carat ruby has been discovered in Myanmar, in the Mogok region, being considered of superior quality.

In Myanmar, an impressive ruby of 11,000 carats was discovered, one of the largest ever found in this country renowned for its high-quality rubies. General Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the military junta, was photographed examining the 2.2-kilogram stone in his office, according to the state newspaper 'Global New Light of Myanmar'. The ruby, found in the Mogok region, is described as 'exceptionally large, rare, and difficult to find', having a red-purple hue with yellow accents.

Although it is smaller than a 21,450-carat ruby discovered in 1996, the government claims that this stone is more valuable due to its superior color and clarity. The Mogok region is famous for 'pigeon blood' rubies, the most expensive in the world, and exceptionally high-quality jewelry can reach exorbitant values. Although the size of the ruby is impressive, experts emphasize that value depends not only on size but also on quality. Myanmar has been under the rule of a military junta since 2021, and the gemstone industry is poorly regulated.
