Professor Montserrat García Closas from the Cancer Research Institute stated that it is concerning to observe an increase in cancer cases among young people. However, she emphasized that adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight, can reduce risks. Although cancer cases among young people are on the rise, they remain much fewer compared to those in older age groups. One in 1,000 young people is diagnosed with cancer annually, compared to one in 100 among older individuals. Research continues to identify other risk factors, including the consumption of ultra-processed foods, hazardous chemicals, and the use of antibiotics. It is also being investigated whether improving cancer detection methods contributes to more frequent diagnoses among young people.
