A team of researchers from Stanford University has created a revolutionary nasal vaccine targeting multiple diseases, including respiratory infections and allergies. Unlike traditional vaccines, this nasal spray stimulates the immune system directly, activating innate immunity, the body's first line of defense.
The formula contains toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which 'awakens' the immune system, keeping it alert. Tests on mice have shown promising results, protecting them from coronavirus and bacteria for at least three months. However, experts warn that studies are still in the early stages and that human immune responses may vary.
Additionally, constant stimulation of immunity could have risks, such as chronic inflammation. Other nasal vaccines, including one against COVID-19, are already in clinical trials, having the potential to provide a simple and effective solution for disease prevention through a single annual administration.
