In the context of a rising wave of respiratory infections, Romania is recording daily at least 100 cases of influenza, with approximately 50% of patients being hospitalized. Doctor Adrian Marinescu, the manager of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases 'Prof. Dr. Matei Balș', emphasized that influenza is an unpredictable condition, but vaccinated individuals have a higher chance of experiencing mild forms and without complications. The increase in cases coincided with the return to work and school after the holidays. Additionally, the doctor mentioned the K subtype of influenza, which is spreading in Europe, and highlighted the importance of vaccination. This season, 11 deaths due to influenza have been reported, and patients with complications may require close monitoring.
