The Ministry of Health recommends flu vaccination before the start of the cold season and specifies who can receive immunization free of charge or at a subsidized rate. Administered annually, the vaccine reduces the risk of severe flu, complications and hospitalization.
Vaccination is free for children aged at least six months, pregnant women, people over 65, patients with certain chronic illnesses, medical and auxiliary healthcare staff, as well as institutionalized adults and children. People between 45 and 65 who do not have chronic illnesses are eligible for a 50% subsidy of the reference price.
Those who do not fall into these categories can be vaccinated at the full price. The Ministry recommends that interested individuals contact their family doctor to obtain a prescription for the vaccine. It can be collected from a pharmacy, while administration takes place at the family doctor’s office or in authorized pharmacies.
Authorities also recommend hand hygiene, airing rooms and consulting a doctor in the event of severe symptoms or worsening health. Vaccines available for the current season can be found in pharmacies, while stocks last.
