Researchers at the University of Florida have demonstrated that an experimental mRNA vaccine can stimulate the immune system to fight cancer without targeting a specific tumor protein. Combining this vaccine with cancer therapies generated a potent anti-tumor response with the potential to become a universal cancer vaccine. The results suggest a new paradigm in cancer treatments, activating T lymphocytes to destroy tumors. The team is now working to advance clinical trials.
