The manager of the 'Saint Parascheva' Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Iași, Dr. Florin Roșu, announced that in July three cases of suspected infection with the West Nile virus were reported.

The only confirmed case is that of a 22-year-old woman from Vaslui County, who presented symptoms such as headaches, speech disturbances, and double vision. Although she has not traveled recently to rural areas and has not been bitten by mosquitoes, the diagnosis was confirmed after investigations. The woman is undergoing symptomatic treatment and her condition is favorable.

Two other people from Iași, a 50-year-old man and another 70-year-old man, have been hospitalized with suspected infections, and tests are ongoing. Dr. Roșu emphasizes the importance of epidemiological surveillance and rapid diagnosis, especially during the warm season when mosquito activity is at its peak. Early presentation to the hospital is essential for a correct diagnosis and effective treatment.
