Dr. Adrian Marinescu, the manager of the Matei Balș Institute of Infectious Diseases, warns that the number of flu cases in Bucharest has significantly increased, reaching 70-80 patients per day. Half of the presentations at the emergency room are acute respiratory infections, most of which are flu. The new variant of flu A, variant K, is circulating intensively, having a higher contagion rate, especially among the vulnerable population, such as children and the elderly.

Dr. Marinescu emphasizes that the population of Romania is not vaccinated at an optimal percentage, which increases the risk of illness. Additionally, Dr. Claudina Cobzariu, a pediatrician, confirms that half of the flu cases are in children, and infectious disease hospitals are becoming crowded. Preventive measures are insufficient, and hygiene rules are not being followed, leading to hospital-acquired infections. Currently, hospital visits are restricted to protect vulnerable patients, and vaccination remains a major issue, with a low immunization rate among parents and children.
