In the last week, the online space has been dominated by tense themes that combine high-level corruption, social pressure, and specific adjustments of the state in relation to citizens, both at the central level and locally. The DNA Cluj investigations at the Bistrița-Năsăud and Sălaj county councils, which resulted in the resignation of PSD leader Radu Moldovan, as well as the hearing of Sălaj CJ president Dinu Iancu Sălăjanu, were predominantly perceived negatively in the online environment and were associated with a growing concern regarding the integrity of local administration. The 19-year prison sentence of Moldovan oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc in the "Bank Fraud" case, the strong support expressed by Manfred Weber for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, accompanied by criticism of the PSD, as well as the announcement of a 40% increase in the subway fare, prior to the resignation of Minister Ciprian Șerban, completed a heavily charged, tense, and strongly polarized informational landscape.

An evaluation conducted through the NewsVibe platform, which integrates artificial intelligence technologies for analyzing content from the media and social networks, indicated the publication of 42,811 materials about domestic politics during this period, from relevant web sources, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok in Romania. The processed data revealed ten entities that benefited from an intensified presence in the digital environment, analyzing both the elements that underpinned this growth and the contribution of online channels to the dissemination and reinforcement of messages.

Political topics on the rise

Corruption investigations at the local level: DNA Cluj conducted searches at the Bistrița-Năsăud County Council and at the home of its president, Emil Radu Moldovan (PSD). Following these actions, Radu Moldovan resigned from his position as president of the PSD Bistrița-Năsăud organization, and the public administrator, Florin Moldovan, and a director from the Bistrița-Năsăud CJ were detained. Searches were also targeted at the Sălaj County Council and at the home of its president, Dinu Iancu Sălăjanu (PNL), who was heard at DNA Cluj, in a case handled by the Cluj Territorial Service of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate. These events have a predominantly negative sentiment in the online environment, indicating a heightened public concern regarding the integrity of local administration.

The conviction of Vladimir Plahotniuc: Moldovan oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc was sentenced to 19 years in prison in the "Bank Fraud" case for creating and leading a criminal organization and the disappearance of one billion dollars from the banking system of the Republic of Moldova.

European support for Ilie Bolojan and criticism of the PSD: Manfred Weber, president of the European People's Party (EPP), sent a strong message of support for Ilie Bolojan, highlighting the rapid results achieved by the prime minister and the direction of reforms, in the context of discussions about the Government's priorities and the use of European funds. Weber also criticized the Social Democratic Party (PSD), stating that it has strayed from its pro-European commitments.

Reorganization of ANAF: The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), under the leadership of Adrian Nica, is preparing a major restructuring aimed at abolishing 76 tax offices in the country, representing almost half of the territorial units. The stated goal is to optimize the collection network and streamline operations, with the promise that there will be no layoffs, but rather the relocation of staff.

Increase in subway fare: PSD Minister of Transport, Ciprian Șerban, announced a 40% increase in the subway fare in Bucharest, prior to his likely resignation from the Government. This decision has a negative sentiment in the online space, reflecting public dissatisfaction with price increases for public services.
