In recent days, the online space has been dominated by themes of internal politics, economic crisis, and social tensions, from the controversial appointment of Jean Vișan as the head of Romsilva and the failed negotiations regarding the fuel crisis, to the protests at the Mangalia Shipyard, triggered by unpaid wages and the prospect of bankruptcy.

An evaluation conducted through the NewsVibe platform, which integrates artificial intelligence technologies for analyzing content from the media and social networks, indicated the publication of 38,101 materials about internal politics during this period, on web sources, Facebook, YouTube, and relevant TikTok channels from Romania. The processed data revealed ten entities that benefited from an increase in their digital presence, analyzing both the elements that underpinned this growth and the contribution of online channels to the dissemination and reinforcement of messages.

Political subjects on the rise

Romsilva and the appointment of Jean Vișan: The appointment of Jean Vișan as general director of Romsilva generated a negative sentiment, especially from the Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, who stated that she does not trust that he will deliver reforms and that, previously, he blocked serious measures.

The fuel crisis and government intervention: Presidential advisor Radu Burnete warned that Romania's budget does not allow for a substantial reduction in fuel excise duties and that prices could exceed 10 lei. The government postponed the adoption of the emergency ordinance regarding the fuel crisis due to the lack of approval from the Economic and Social Council (CES), and unions such as the National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) and Cartel Alfa boycotted the meeting with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, accusing the defective manner of convening, while the meeting of the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue took place in the absence of the main trade union confederations.

Tensions in the governing coalition: The National Permanent Bureau of PSD met to discuss the calendar of a possible exit from the government, with Sorin Grindeanu mentioning internal consultations after the adoption of the budget for 2026. On the other hand, the National Political Bureau of PNL adopted a resolution warning that if PSD provokes a governmental crisis, PNL will no longer be able to continue in the coalition.

The economic situation and rising prices: The National Association of Small and Medium Traders in Romania (ANCMMR) warned that prices for essential food items (bread, dairy, meats) could rise by 8-10% by the end of the year, due to high energy and transport costs. In this context, Feliciu Paraschiv, a representative of traders, explained that price increases and the contraction of consumption risk translating into layoffs and bankruptcies, especially among SMEs in retail, against the backdrop of a visible decline in store sales.

Protests at the Mangalia Shipyard: Hundreds of employees at Mangalia Shipyard protested due to unpaid wages for over three months. Union members are demanding the rapid approval of the reorganization plan to avoid bankruptcy, amid announcements that Damen Shipyards, the company that owns part of the shipyard, could initiate bankruptcy proceedings, and union leader Laurențiu Gobeajă publicly denounced the risk of massive job losses.
