Carrefour Romania's acquisition by the Paval Brothers (Dedeman): The Paval Brothers, owners of Dedeman, completed the acquisition of Carrefour Romania through a transaction valued at 823 million euros, one of the largest recent moves in the Romanian food retail sector. This strategic move marks the entry of the Paval Holding group into the food retail sector, with the takeover of an extensive network of 478 stores, including hypermarkets, supermarkets, and convenience stores. Karina Paval, vice president of Paval Holding, emphasized confidence in the potential of the Romanian market, presenting the transaction as a bet on increasing consumption and strengthening domestic capital. This acquisition is considered one of the largest transactions made by a Romanian company in the domestic market.

Sale of ArcelorMittal Hunedoara to UMB Steel: The ArcelorMittal Hunedoara plant, closed in September 2025, was sold to UMB Steel, a company controlled by businessman Dorinel Umbrărescu, in a transaction that brings a major industrial asset back on the map. The transaction, valued at 12.5 million euros, was approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders and is estimated to be completed by June 1, 2026. This acquisition is part of a series of takeovers made by Umbrărescu in the steel industry, including the Oțelu Roșu plant, with potential impact on employment and supplier networks in the area.

Layoffs at Heineken Globally: Heineken, the second-largest beer producer in the world, announced a restructuring plan that includes reducing up to 6,000 jobs globally over the next two years, representing approximately 7% of the total workforce. The decision comes against the backdrop of "difficult market conditions" and declining beer consumption, with the company also lowering its profit growth estimates for 2026, amid pressures related to the cost of living and changing consumer preferences, with streamlining measures also targeting operations in Romania, where Heineken owns three breweries.

Construction of the K9 Howitzer Factory in Petrești, Dâmbovița: South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace has begun construction on its first production unit in Europe, the Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) Europe, in the locality of Petrești, Dâmbovița County. This factory will produce the K9 "Thunder" self-propelled howitzer and is expected to generate up to 2,000 jobs, contributing both to the development of the defense industry and to the dynamization of the local economy. The Minister of Economy stated that this project represents a strategic national objective, both through technology transfer and through integration into NATO production chains.

City Grill Group Wins Auction for a Café-Bistro in the Casino of Constanța: City Grill Group, a company owned by entrepreneur Dragoș Petrescu, won the auction organized by the Patrimoniu Constanța Litoral S.R.L. for operating a café-bistro within the Casino of Constanța. Details regarding the design concept and the completion date of the works will be communicated later, with the project aiming to capitalize on one of the most iconic tourist spaces on the coast.

News about Dacia Models and State Projects: Dacia launched the new facelifted Jogger with a 1.8-liter hybrid engine and 155 horsepower, available for order in Romania, strengthening the hybrid model offering in the local market. Additionally, a new Dacia model was presented in France, which will represent the top of the range, with a design identity and positioning aimed at elevating the brand into a higher perception zone. On the other hand, the Romanian state is resuming an older project to launch the mineral water brand "Dacia", with a very low price and a state-owned factory, estimating a bottle price of 1.5 lei and availability in 2-3 years, as an intervention tool in the consumer goods market.

Raids in a Tax Evasion Case in Mureș and Other Counties: Police officers from the Service for the Investigation of Economic Crime Mureș conducted 40 raids in Bucharest and in six counties (Mureș, Brașov, Iași, Olt, Cluj, Argeș) in a tax evasion case. The estimated damage in this case amounts to 2 million lei, targeting a network of companies that allegedly defrauded the state with "phantom" invoices, the investigation targeting both phantom company structures and final beneficiaries.

Danube Logistics and the Expansion of Transport Infrastructure: In the area of regional infrastructure and logistics, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development announced the completion of the sale of Danube Logistics, the operator of the Giurgiulești Free International Port in the Republic of Moldova, to the National Company Administration of Maritime Ports Constanța. Through this acquisition, Romania strengthens its control over a strategic maritime port on the Danube and the Black Sea, impacting regional trade routes and connectivity with the Republic of Moldova.

Hyundai Rotem and Hydrogen Train Projects: In the field of transport, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ciprian Șerban, met with a delegation from the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem to discuss the "DACIA Project", a broad proposal for localizing rolling stock production in Romania. The plans aim at the possibility of manufacturing hydrogen trains and developing a high-speed railway, with the declarative goal of making Romania a regional hub in the railway sector and accelerating the transition to low-emission transport.
