During the last week, the online environment has been dominated by systemic political-economic themes, from the launch of the eLicitațiiANAF platform for the online sale of seized goods and warnings from traders regarding the rising prices of basic food items, to the restrictions on fuel announced in Slovenia and the energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova.

An evaluation conducted through the NewsVibe platform, which integrates artificial intelligence technologies for analyzing content from the media and social networks, indicated the publication of 30,584 economic-related materials during this period, across web sources, Facebook, YouTube, and relevant TikTok channels in Romania. The processed data revealed ten entities that benefited from an increased presence in the digital environment, analyzing both the elements that underpinned this growth and the contribution of online channels to the dissemination and reinforcement of messages.

The eLicitațiiANAF platform for the sale of seized goods: The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), together with the Ministry of Finance, will launch on March 30 the digital platform eLicitațiiANAF. This will be dedicated to the advertising and sale of seized goods, both in criminal and fiscal matters, as well as those that have entered the private property of the state. Through this platform, Romanians will be able to buy confiscated goods online, including houses and cars.

Warnings regarding the rising prices of food and the impact on SMEs (ANCMMR and the National Association of Small and Medium Traders in Romania): The National Association of Small and Medium Traders in Romania (ANCMMR) warns that the prices of some basic food items, such as bread, bakery products, dairy products, and cold cuts, could increase by up to 8-10% by the end of the year, due to high energy and transport costs. Additionally, the decrease in consumption and rising costs could lead to layoffs and bankruptcies, especially among SMEs. Retail sales have already recorded a decrease of 6.5% in January.

Slovenia limits fuel sales amid the energy crisis (Robert Golob): Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob announced temporary restrictions on fuel sales, limiting the quantity to a maximum of 50 liters per day for drivers and 200 liters for companies. This decision comes in response to shortages at gas stations and the pressures created by the conflict in the Middle East on fuel supply.

The energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova and its impact on the connection with Romania (Isaccea and Vulcănești): The Republic of Moldova is facing a severe energy crisis, driven by Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The government in Chișinău has proposed declaring a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days. The high-voltage power line Isaccea–Vulcănești, vital for importing energy from Romania, has been damaged, and the Republic of Moldova intends to seek compensation from Russia for damages.

Postponement of government measures regarding fuel prices (Economic and Social Council and Marian Neacșu): The government postponed the extraordinary meeting in which it was supposed to adopt the emergency ordinance regarding the limitation of the commercial markup on fuels, as the Economic and Social Council (CES) did not provide the necessary approval, as explained by the Secretary General of the Government, Marian Neacșu. This postponement has generated discussions and blockages, with unions refusing to participate in social dialogue meetings and accusing the government of a lack of transparency. The ordinance is expected to be adopted later, with possible modifications.

Warnings regarding the duration of energy crises and new measures for consumers (George Niculescu): George Niculescu, the president of ANRE, warns that an energy crisis, once started, can last between 3 and 5 years. In this context, ANRE is preparing a system through which residential and non-residential electricity consumers will receive messages from operators when they approach the monthly consumption specified in the contract, similar to the RO-Alert system.

Tense social dialogue on fuel issues (National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue and Cartel Alfa): Trade union confederations, including the National Trade Union Bloc and Cartel Alfa, have refused to participate in the meeting of the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue, accusing the government of mimicking social dialogue in the context of the proposed measures for the fuel market. The unions are calling for urgent measures for the country's energy security, including reducing VAT and excise duties on fuels.

Global warnings regarding recession and inequality (Larry Fink): Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, warns that an increase in oil prices to $150 per barrel would trigger a global recession. He also emphasizes that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) risks exacerbating economic inequalities, enriching only a limited number of companies and individuals. Globally, there is talk of the worst energy crisis in decades, amplified by the conflict in the Middle East, which could affect all countries.

Major investment in a factory near Bucharest (Ștefăneștii de Jos): JTI has announced an investment of approximately 300 million euros for the construction of a new factory in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Ilfov County. This is considered one of the company's largest investments in Romania and will create new jobs. Tobacco exports from Romania, especially to Japan, are among the most important, confirming the significance of the local market for JTI.
