The European Commissioner for Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stated that if the war between the USA and Iran continues and the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked after June, the European Union could face supply issues with kerosene.

Although there are currently no supply issues, instability in the region could complicate the situation. Tzitzikostas mentioned that flight cancellations are already a reality, mainly caused by the rising price of kerosene, which accounts for almost 40% of the operating costs of aircraft. If a contraction in the supply market is observed after June,

the European Commission will release fuel from emergency reserves, ensuring that this does not create additional problems.

Additionally, EU member states are now required to notify the Commission daily about their available emergency reserves.
