The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, announced that the EU is trying to adopt the 20th sanctions package against Russia on Monday, following its aggression against Ukraine. Although previous sanctions have had a significant impact on the Russian economy and have limited its capabilities to continue the war, European diplomats have failed to reach an agreement on the details of the new measures. Kallas made these statements during a press conference, alongside the defense ministers from the E5 Group, which includes France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the United Kingdom. A meeting of European diplomats is scheduled for Monday in Brussels, where sanctions will also be discussed.
