The European Union expressed concern on Friday regarding the unilateral decision of the United States to lift sanctions on Russian oil, in the context of rising prices due to the conflict in the Middle East. The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, emphasized that this measure could affect European security by increasing Russia's resources to continue its aggression in Ukraine.
The American Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, announced a temporary authorization for the sale of Russian oil, in response to the surge in prices. The European Commission called for the maintenance of sanctions, warning that Russia could significantly benefit from their relaxation, estimating that it has gained 150 million dollars a day from oil sales as a result of the conflict.
