At the European Pulse Forum in Barcelona, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, stated that joining the European Union is no longer just a story about financial support for infrastructure, but reflects a commitment to common values and a peace project. Montenegro, which began accession negotiations in 2012, is considered the main candidate.

Spajić emphasized the importance of the single European market and common values, mentioning that accession would provide hope for the Western Balkans. Although some member states are skeptical about enlargement, Montenegro has closed 14 of the 33 chapters necessary for accession and aims to finalize the process by 2028. The Prime Minister stated that the reforms implemented are unprecedented and that Podgorica is confident in closing the remaining chapters by the end of 2026.
