Brussels has launched a new plan to reduce the internal economic fragmentation of the European Union, but history suggests that it will yield no results, similar to previous initiatives.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the "One Europe, One Market Roadmap", but the details are confusing, and the ambitions seem low. Although European leaders have promised the integration of the internal market, a report from the European Court of Auditors highlighted the lack of ambition and minimal progress in removing market barriers. Furthermore, member nations are reluctant to amend legislation, and the Commission has not seriously assessed the benefits of market integration. These obstacles suggest that, despite the elaborate documents, Europe is heading towards economic stagnation, in the face of global challenges such as high energy prices and geopolitical instability.
