UN officials have stated that the ozone layer is healing, and the hole above Antarctica could completely disappear in a few decades. A recent report highlights a decrease in the size of the hole in 2024, showcasing the success of international actions, such as the Montreal Protocol. This has led to the elimination of over 99% of the substances that deplete the ozone layer. The recovery of the layer will significantly reduce health risks and damage to ecosystems. It is estimated that the ozone layer will return to levels seen in the 1980s by 2066 in Antarctica.
