The National Environmental Guard (GNM) announced that it imposed fines of nearly 2.5 million lei in Bucharest and Ilfov in 2025, as a result of exceeding the limit values for suspended particles. The Bucharest City Hall was sanctioned for failing to meet previous measures. GNM conducted pollution monitoring actions, finding that road traffic contributes 58.4% to pollution, while residential heating contributes 27.4%. A total of 108 inspections were carried out in Bucharest, resulting in 93 sanctions amounting to 1.52 million lei for various irregularities.

In Ilfov, 139 economic operators were checked, and 35 were sanctioned with 840,000 lei. Additionally, GNM collaborated with the Police to combat illegal burning. The Bucharest City Hall was fined 100,000 lei for the lack of an Integrated Air Quality Plan, affecting the management of green spaces.
