The IEA report shows that methane emissions from the power sector remained near record levels in 2023, at more than 120 million metric tons.

Methane emissions from the production and use of fossil fuels put more than 120 million metric tons of methane into the atmosphere last year, close to the record high set in 2019. This is despite a commitment by more than 150 countries in 2021 to reduce global methane emissions by at least 30% below 2020 levels.
