After the devastating floods in the spring of last year, the authorities decided to intervene in Praid through an investment of approximately 330 million lei, approved on February 19 by the government at the proposal of the Ministry of Environment. The project aims to reduce the risk of flooding on the Corund River and protect the local community, including the Praid Salt Mine, which was severely affected by the floods in 2025.
The project includes the construction of a temporary reservoir, the arrangement of the Corund River over a length of more than 7 kilometers, and the construction of a 1.2-kilometer underground channel to manage extreme flows. This intervention marks a transition from temporary solutions to structural measures, essential in the context of the intensification of extreme weather phenomena.
The Praid area is crucial from an economic point of view, and the impact on the Salt Mine has generated significant losses. The investment is an important step towards preventing future crises, having the potential to become a model for other regions exposed to flood risks. The Praid Salt Mine remains closed due to water infiltrations, and the authorities continue safety assessments before resuming activities.
