Hurricane Erin, the first major storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, has reached category 5, according to the US National Hurricane Center. The storm, located 170 km north of Anguilla, generates extreme winds of 255 km/h. Its waves will hit the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and the US east coast, and heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days. Erin will shift north, affecting the Bahamas and Bermuda.
