On December 31, 2023, Romania recorded the lowest temperatures in the last five years, with values reaching minus 22 degrees Celsius at Vârful Omul. In cities like Târgoviște and Ploiești, the frost was felt intensely, and tourists in the mountain resorts dressed warmly to cope with temperatures of minus 14-15 degrees. New Year's Eve is expected to be even colder, with temperatures below minus 10 degrees in many areas, including near the capital. Meteorologist Simona Căpăună mentioned that, although the wind will calm down, light snow will continue in the mountain and western regions. The first day of January will bring a new wave of cold air, with maximums of only five degrees Celsius in the south of the country, while in Bucharest, a maximum of three degrees is expected. A brave person took a bath in the cold sea at Constanța, which was only five degrees Celsius.
