Nicușor Dan, the independent candidate, won the presidential elections with 6,168,642 votes (53.60%), ahead of George Simion from AUR, who got 46.40%. European Parliament Vice-President Nicu Ștefănuță underlined Dan's importance for Romania, saying that many would not be in their current positions without his contribution. EP President Roberta Metsola also offered her congratulations, expressing her confidence in Romania's future under Dan's leadership. More than 11.6 million Romanians voted in the elections.
