Interim Education Minister Mihai Dimian told students on Thursday, at the opening of the new academic year, that investments in dormitories and educational facilities cannot replace work, involvement and personal responsibility.
The message was delivered at a ceremony held at the Faculty of History of the University of Bucharest, where the minister spoke particularly to first-year students. Dimian told them that, although they would have access to modern dormitories and lecture halls brought closer to Western standards, these would not study in their place, build relationships or identify professional opportunities.
The minister urged students to make a considerable effort in their studies, show respect for their colleagues and professors, and try to discover something new every day. He stressed that integration into university life is built gradually through relationships with colleagues, professors and friends.
Dimian encouraged them to enjoy their student years, learn, ask questions, make friends, accept mistakes and start over. According to him, university education is not only about preparing for a profession, but also about personal development.
