Trade unionists in education say that they will boycott the national exam simulations, while leaders Marius Nistor and Simion Hăncescu stated that the unions have not received any invitation from the new Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, for discussions amid tensions in the system and teachers' dissatisfaction with austerity measures. On the other hand, the new Minister of Education says he is "open to dialogue".

"The vast majority lean towards non-participation. In any case, both the strike and non-participation ultimately lead us to exactly the same thing, namely the boycott of the simulations. Tomorrow will be the final date, at which we will present very clear results, but from what we have centralized at the moment, there is a majority that leans towards boycotting: either through non-participation or through the strike. What is essential is that the simulations will be boycotted," said Marius Nistor, president of the Federation of Trade Unions in Education "Spiru Haret" for Edupedu.

At the same time, Nistor, as well as Simion Hăncescu, president of the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI), say they have not received any invitation from the Ministry.

"For now, we are also waiting. We have no invitation," Hăncescu said, according to EduPedu. Nistor was even ironic when asked if the unions had received any invitation from Minister Dimian.

"Do we have a new minister?" Nistor reacted, the cited source writes.

On the other hand, the Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, seems to be waiting for an invitation from the unions as well.

"I have received from ANOSR. I will arrange a meeting with them next week," he stated, notes EduPedu.

When asked if there is any plan regarding the unions, the minister, who was in a government meeting, only specified: "I am open to dialogue."

On Friday, Romanians are expected to find out whether teachers will boycott the simulations for the national exams, which will take place between March 16 and 17, 2026 (National Assessment simulation) and March 23 and 25, 2026 (Baccalaureate simulation).

The centralized results of the referendum, expressed both numerically (the number of signatories) and as a percentage relative to the total number of members of the organization, must be communicated in writing, no later than Friday, March 6, 2026, at 12:00 PM.
