Since Romania's accession to the EU, the average net monthly take-home pay has increased significantly, reaching €1045 in 2024, an increase of 122% even after adjusting for inflation. However, Romanians' perception of income remains negative due to inequality, with 67% of employees earning below the national average. Although wage inequality has fallen, progress is slow and total incomes have increased almost five-fold since 2007. Romania is in the middle of the European league table for income inequality.
